The Bortz Teaching Award

The Bortz Teaching Award was established in 2000 by Dr. and Mrs. Donald W. Bortz, Sr. in honor of the inauguration of their son, Walter M. Bortz III, as the twenty-third president of Hampden-Sydney College.  The award goes to a faculty member who has made a substantial contribution in the previous year to the use of technology in the classroom.  In particular, the faculty member will have contributed in some way to the transfer of knowledge using electronic means.  The selection committee for the Bortz Teaching Award during the first three years shall be composed of the following:  the chair of the Faculty Affairs Committee, the Director of Eggleston Library, the Instructional Technologist, the Director of the computing Center, and the Dean of the Faculty who shall serve as chair.  Beginning in the third year of the award, the winners of the previous two years shall also serve on the selection committee.  The selection committee will meet in April to determine its recommended choice and the Bortz Teaching Award shall then be awarded at Opening Convocation.
