The Hampden-Sydney College Observatory has recently undergone a significant upgrade. While it is housed in the same place, the telescope, CCD camera, and mount are all completely new as of the 2005-2006 academic year.

The observatory is used on clear nights for research, teaching, and community observing.

Research Plans

Currently research plans are to integrate the observatory into the SkyNet control system for fully automated control. This will enable the telescope to be used more efficiently, because it will not need to be staffed in order to be observing.
