C. Brannon Andersen
Director of Environmental Studies and Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Furman University, where he has taught since 1994 after receiving his Ph.D. from Syracuse University. Adjunct Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering and Science in the School of the Environment at Clemson University. Co-director of the River Basins Research Initiative, an interdisciplinary program studying the impact of urbanization on the biogeochemistry, hydrology, and biodiversity of stream systems.
Christopher T. Chapel ‘93
Director of Governmental Affairs for Florida Power & Light. FPL Energy, the largest wind energy producer in the United States, is a major national energy company with a presence in twenty-six states. Prior to joining Florida Power & Light, he was an associate with The Renkes Group LTD., a Washington D.C.-based public policy consulting firm, and senior consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton. Following graduation from Hampen-Sydney in 1993, Chapel was a senior legislative assistant for U.S. Congressman Cliff Steams. His duties included oversight of electric utility, Clean Air Act and nuclear policy legislation.
Samuel B. (Sandy) McLaughlin ’65
Research Professor, University of Tennessee, former Senior Research Scientist with the Ecosystem Studies Section of the Environmental Sciences Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), former member National Research Council Committee on Monitoring and Assessing Trends in Acid Deposition, former member National Research Council Committee on Markers of Air Pollution Exposure in Trees.
Patrick J. Michaels
Senior Fellow, CATO Institute and Research professor of environmental sciences at the University of Virginia; Visiting Scientist with the Marshall Institute in Washington, D.C. He is a past president of the American Association of State Climatologists and was program chair for the Committee on Applied Climatology of the American Meteorological Society. Michaels is a contributing author and reviewer of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. According to Nature magazine, Pat Michaels may be the most popular lecturer in the nation on the subject of global warming.
Ronald C. (Ron) Shiflett Jr. '74
Executive Director, International Utility Efficiency Partnership Inc., Member of Advisory Board, C-Trade. After receiving his BA in Government from Hampden-Sydney College in 1974 Mr. Shiflett took the MBA from the Wharton School of Business. Mr. Shiflett is former Director of Nuclear Activities at the Edison Electric Institute.
