H-SC LAX PLACES SEVEN ON ALL-CONFERENCE SQUAD

(May 8, 2008) SALEM, VA—Following a roller coaster season on the turf, seven Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse Tigers were named to the 2008 Old Dominion Athletic Conference all-league teams. The Tigers placed two players, senior captain Colin Dunn (Chevy Chase, MD/Trinity Pawling) and senior Alex Pritzlaff (Castle Rock, CO/Kent Denver), on the All-ODAC first team. Senior defenseman Ian York (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne's-Belfield) earned second team recognition while teammates Doug Carpenter (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's), Kyle Jett (Suffolk, VA/Nanesmond Suffolk), Kyle Frazier (Forest, VA/Virginia Episcopal) and Will Ashwell (Warrenton, VA/Notre Dame Academy) rounded out Hampden-Sydney's all-conference honorees with honorable mention selections.

UPSTART R-MC STUNS LAX TIGERS, CLINCHES FIRST EVER ODAC BERTH

(April 26, 2008) ASHLAND, VA—Yellow Jackets' attackman Billy Rowe scored three goals and added one assist and Paul Johnson and Tyler Watkins notched two tallies apiece as Randolph-Macon College’s lacrosse squad secured the program’s first ever berth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Tournament with an 11-7 defeat of visiting Hampden-Sydney College on Saturday afternoon. Yellow Jackets net minder Ray Wadorski was a monster in the cage, racking up 23 saves, including two huge stops in the third period to aid the R-MC cause. Hampden-Sydney was led by sophomore Kyle Jett (Suffolk, VA/Nanesmond Suffolk) and junior Andrew Mahoney (Littleton, CO/Littleton) who each scored twice, but never held a lead in a game that ultimately eliminated the Tigers from postseason contention.

MARLINS SCORE 5-4 WIN IN EXTRA INNINGS, TIGERS ELIMINATED

(April 25, 2008) LYNCHBURG, VA—After nine innings, Hampden-Sydney and Virginia Wesleyan were tied at 4-4, but a two-out triple by the Marlins' Brian Schweers turned into a run on a throwing error to give Virginia Wesleyan the 5-4 victory in ten innings on the second day of the 2008 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament. The Tigers erased a two-run deficit to tie the game in the top of the eighth inning, but could not manage another run as the Marlins won in extra innings. With the win, Virginia Wesleyan improves to 25-15-1 on the season and moves on to play Saturday at City Stadium, while Hampden-Sydney wraps up their season at 17-25 overall.

LYNCHBURG TOPS HAMPDEN-SYDNEY IN ODAC OPENING ROUND

(April 24, 2008) LYNCHBURG, VA—Hampden-Sydney recorded 13 hits against Lynchburg College in the opening round of the 2008 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament at City Stadium in Lynchburg, VA, but the Tigers could only manage two runs as they fell to the Hornets, 7-2. The Tigers had three more hits than the Hornets, but committed three errors compared to just one error for Lynchburg. With the win, Lynchburg improves to 29-9 on the season and will play the loser of the game between Randolph-Macon and Bridgewater on Friday at 3:00 pm. With the loss, Hampden-Sydney drops to 17-24 overall and will play the loser of the game between Washington and Lee and Virginia Wesleyan on Friday at 11:00 am.
