MARLINS SCORE 5-4 WIN IN EXTRA INNINGS, TIGERS ELIMINATED

LYNCHBURG, VA—After nine innings, Hampden-Sydney and Virginia Wesleyan were tied at 4-4, but a two-out triple by the Marlins' Brian Schweers turned into a run on a throwing error to give Virginia Wesleyan the 5-4 victory in ten innings on the second day of the 2008 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament. The Tigers erased a two-run deficit to tie the game in the top of the eighth inning, but could not manage another run as the Marlins won in extra innings. With the win, Virginia Wesleyan improves to 25-15-1 on the season and moves on to play Saturday at City Stadium, while Hampden-Sydney wraps up their season at 17-25 overall.

LYNCHBURG TOPS HAMPDEN-SYDNEY IN ODAC OPENING ROUND

LYNCHBURG, VA—Hampden-Sydney recorded 13 hits against Lynchburg College in the opening round of the 2008 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament at City Stadium in Lynchburg, VA, but the Tigers could only manage two runs as they fell to the Hornets, 7-2. The Tigers had three more hits than the Hornets, but committed three errors compared to just one error for Lynchburg. With the win, Lynchburg improves to 29-9 on the season and will play the loser of the game between Randolph-Macon and Bridgewater on Friday at 3:00 pm. With the loss, Hampden-Sydney drops to 17-24 overall and will play the loser of the game between Washington and Lee and Virginia Wesleyan on Friday at 11:00 am.

BASEBALL TIGERS EARN SIXTH SEED, FACE LYNCHBURG IN OPENING ROUND OF THE 2008 ODAC TOURNAMENT

SALEM, VA—After Saturday's split with Roanoke College, the baseball Tigers were left with a lot of questions. Among those, were the Tigers in or out of the ODAC Baseball Tournament? The answer came soon enough, as the Tigers received word that they would be the sixth seed in the upcoming tournament to be hosted at City Stadium in Lynchburg, VA. The Tigers will face the first-seeded Lynchburg College on Thursday, April 25, at 11:00 am. Thursday's game against Lynchburg will be broadcasted live on 95.7 WFLO FM or on the Hampden-Sydney athletic website, www.hsc.edu/athletics. Radio coverage should begin at 10:45 am.

BASEBALL TIGERS SPLIT WITH ROANOKE, WAIT TO FIND OUT ABOUT ODAC TOURNAMENT

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA—The Hampden-Sydney baseball team earned a split with Roanoke College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader at Yank Bernier Field on Saturday afternoon. Despite committing five errors, the Maroons earned a 4-3 victory in the first game as the Tigers could not erase a 4-2 deficit in the seven inning game. In game two, the Tigers scored at least two runs in each inning over the last four innings to capture a 10-3 win and earn a split with the Maroons. With the split, Hampden-Sydney moves to 17-23 on the season and 8-10 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, while Roanoke is now 15-21 overall and 8-10 in the league. Hampden-Sydney now waits to find out if they made the 2008 Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament. BASEBALL TIGERS FALL IN 11-10 THRILLER TO WASHINGTON AND LEE

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA—The Hampden-Sydney baseball team held an 8-1 advantage over Washington and Lee through six innings, but the Generals outscored the Tigers 10-2 over the final three innings to take the 11-10 come-from-behind victory. Both teams were swinging the bat well as the Generals had 15 hits and the Tigers had 14 hits, but the Tigers committed five errors in the losing effort. With the loss, the Tigers drop to 16-22 on the season and 7-9 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play, while the Generals improve to 19-9 overall and 9-7 in the conference.
