NC WESLEYAN BLANKS TIGERS, 1-0

Game Box Score

ROCKY MOUNT, NC (March 7, 2006)—North Carolina Wesleyan pitcher Ben Pearson tossed a two-hit shutout Tuesday as the Battling Bishops downed 12th-ranked Hampden-Sydney, 1-0.  With the win, NC Wesleyan improves to 7-6 overall while the Tigers fall to 6-4.

The only run of the game was scored in the Bishops half of the first as Ryan Snyder singled to bring home centerfield Matt Smith, who dropped in a double with two outs in the inning.  Pearson did the rest for NC Wesleyan as he allowed only two base runners for the game while striking out seven.

Tiger senior Jayson Hanky (Richmond, VA/Benedictine) took the loss despite a solid performance of his own as he worked eight innings and allowed just five hits and one run while striking out four and walking one.  Senior first baseman Tommy Burk (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County) and senior leftfielder Luke Brankley (Onancock, VA/Nandua) recorded the only base hits of the game for the Tigers.

Hampden-Sydney returns to action Thursday, March 9, as the Tigers take on Virginia Intermont College at 6 pm at Randolph-Henry High School in Charlotte Court House, VA.
