Methodist added an unearned run in the fifth as Davis reached on a error and came around to score on an RBI grounder by Spivey. The Monarchs added their sixth and final run in the eighth on a leadoff homer by Davis. The Tigers had opportunities, leaving the bases loaded in both the fifth and sixth innings while stranding 11 runners in all. John Schoenholtz (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia/McCallie) led the way at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance, including the Tigers’ only extra base hit as he laced a double in the second inning. Methodist starter Casey Varnell scored the win after pitching out of the bases loaded jam in the fifth as he worked five innings and gave up two hits while striking out four and walking three. Tiger freshman Matt Thornton (Richmond, VA/James River) took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits through four innings.
