Hampden-Sydney starting pitcher John West (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) earned the no decision for the Tigers as he worked six innings, striking out eight and allowing only one run.  Tiger senior Brock Ward (Lanexa, VA/New Kent) was the hard-luck loser for Hampden-Sydney as he worked one and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs on one hit.  Jon Gill earned the victory for St. Mary's, working the final four innings, giving up one run on three hits.

The Tigers took an early lead against the Seahawks, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third inning as senior David Toney (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis) hit a double to score Josh Michael (Front Royal, VA/Warren County) and Ben Brawley (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County).  St. Mary's answered with one run in the top of the fourth inning, but Hampden-Sydney answered with three runs in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.  St. Mary's scored five runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-5 lead, but the Tigers tied the game, 6-6, as Ryan Daniel (Yanceyville, NC/Yancey Bartlett) scored on a Daniel Prieto (Wellington, FL/Cardinal Newman) single in the bottom of the eighth.  In the top of the ninth, the Seahawks scored four runs and held the Tigers scoreless in the ninth to claim the 10-6 victory

Senior David Toney led the Tigers at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and one run scored.  Freshman Zach Harrelson (Danville, VA/George Washington) and sophomore Ben Brawley went 2-for-4 as Harrelson drove in one run and Brawley scored two.

Hampden-Sydney will return to action on Tuesday, February 12, as the Tigers will travel to Newport News, VA to take on Christopher Newport University.  First pitch for Tuesday's game is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
