Hampden-Sydney starting pitcher Jordan Watkins (Freeland, MD/Hereford) took the loss for the Tigers as he worked four innings, giving up five runs on six hits and two walks.  John Vohlken earned the victory for Piedmont, working five innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and four walks.  Tom Dimitroff earned the save for the Lions, allowing no hits and no runs in the final inning of work.

Piedmont jumped out to an early 5-0 lead through the first four innings, but the Tigers got on the board with three runs in the fifth as senior David Toney (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis) drove in sophomore Ben Brawley (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County) and senior Todd Harrell (Chesapeake, VA/Nansemond-Suffolk) to cut the lead to two runs, 5-3.  The Tigers would add another run in the bottom of the sixth as Toney hit a sacrifice fly to score Harrell to cut the lead to one, 5-4, but Piedmont answered with a single run in the seventh and eighth innings to take the 7-4 victory over the Tigers.

Brawley led the Tigers at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with one run scored.  Todd Harrell finished the day at 3-for-5 with two runs scored, while David Toney went 1-for-2 with one run scored and three RBI.  Sophomore Nick Price (Sterling, VA/Potomac Falls) was 2-for-5 with one RBI.

Hampden-Sydney will return to action on Saturday, March 8, as the Tigers will travel to Ashland, VA to take on ODAC-rival Randolph-Macon College in a doubleheader.  First pitch for Saturday's game is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
