GREENSBORO, NC (March 13, 2008)—The Hampden-Sydney baseball team completed its North Carolina swing with a 3-2 loss at USA South member Greensboro College. Tigers' senior shortstop Todd Harrell (Chesapeake, VA/Nanesmond Suffolk) and sophomore outfielder Ben Brawley (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun) each registered RBI, but the Pride used a committee effort on the mound to subdue the Hampden-Sydney bats for the final six innings of play. Greensboro broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the seventh thanks to an Anthony Corona single through the left side and hung on to claim the win.

With the win, Greensboro improves to 15-8 while the Tigers fall to 7-14.

Hampden-Sydney jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Sophomore Nick Price (Sterling, VA/Potomac Falls) led off the game with a triple to right field and scored immediately on Harrell's sacrifice fly.

After Greensboro knotted the contest at one in the bottom of the second, the Tigers used back-to-back walks, the second earned by Brawley, with the based loaded to take a 2-1 advantage after two-and-a-half innings of play. The pride answered right back in their half of the third, using a Dan Poindexter single to tie the game back up at 2-2. Neither team could push a runner across until the Pride took their first lead of the game in the seventh. The Tigers failed to record a hit in the final two innings, ending their hopes.

Tigers' freshman Louis Mari (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's) turned in a solid offensive performance, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a run. Freshman right-hander Andrew Lawson (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal) took the loss for Hampden-Sydney despite a good performance, allowing just one run on three hits and striking out three in three innings of work.

Hampden-Sydney returns home to pick up with its conference slate on Saturday, March 15, when it hosts Bridgewater College for double-header action. The Tigers and Eagles will begin the twin bill at 11 am at Yank-Bernier Field.
