TWO BASKETBALL TIGERS EARN ALL-STATE ACCOLADES

NEWPORT NEWS, VA—Two members of the Hampden-Sydney basketball team earned all-state honors as announced by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). The all-state teams are nominated and voted on by the Sports Information Directors from around the Commonwealth of Virginia annually. Shenandoah's Jeremiah Lawrence earned Player of the Year honors, while Washington & Lee's Adam Hutchinson was named Coach of the Year. Ferrum's Derek Mitchell took Rookie of the Year honors. Sophomore guard Turner King earned first-team honors, while senior forward Troy Kaase was named to the honorable mention team.

MARLINS SCORE 68-55 VICTORY OVER TIGERS IN ODAC SEMIFINALS

SALEM, VA—After beating Randolph-Macon on Friday night, the Hampden-Sydney basketball team dropped a 68-55 decision to Virginia Wesleyan College in the semifinals of the 2008 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament at the Salem Civic Center. Hampden-Sydney held a 29-22 advantage at halftime, but the Marlins hit 15-of-25 shots in the second half to claim the 68-55 victory. The Tigers were led by Turner King as he scored a game-high 22 points, while senior Troy Kaase added 13 points. With the loss, the Tigers wrap up their season with a 15-12 overall record, while the Marlins improve to 22-5 overall and advance to play Guilford in the ODAC Championship on Sunday afternoon.

KAASE'S TIP-IN SENDS H-SC PAST RMC, 69-67

SALEM, VA—Tigers' senior forward Troy Kaase (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) made up for his lost 2007 with one shot on Saturday night as his tip-in with three seconds remaining sent Hampden-Sydney College past Randolph-Macon College, 69-67, in the final quarterfinal match-up ODAC Men’s Basketball Tournament. The Tigers, now 15-11, move on to face Virginia Wesleyan College in the semifinals on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets bow out with a 20-6 record.

THREE BASKETBALL TIGERS GARNER ALL-ODAC ACCOLADES

SALEM, VA - Three members of the Hampden-Sydney basketball team earned all-conference accolades this week at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament in Salem, VA. The teams were announced at the annual banquet hosted by the Salem Rotary Club. Guilford's Ben Strong earned Player of the Year honors, while W&L's Adam Hutchinson was named Coach of the Year. Randolph-Macon's Jordan Brown earned Rookie of the Year honors, and H-SC's Drew Prehmus was the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY FALLS TO RANDOLPH-MACON, 72-66
(February 23, 2008)
ASHLAND, VA—Hampden-Sydney’s basketball team fell to Randolph-Macon, 72-66, at Crenshaw Gymnasium in Ashland, VA on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers opened the game with an 8-0 lead, but Randolph-Macon took a five-point halftime lead and went on for the six-point victory. Hampden-Sydney was led by sophomore guard Turner King as he finished with 18 points and four rebounds. Senior Troy Kaase scored 14 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, while Drew Prehmus added ten points. With the loss, Hampden-Sydney drops to 14-11 overall and 8-10 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, while Randolph-Macon improved to 20-5 overall record and a 14-4 mark in the conference.
