KING NAMED ODAC HOOPS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SALEM, VA (January 7, 2008)—Hampden-Sydney College sophomore guard Turner King (Roanoke, VA/Roanoke Catholic) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.  King earns the weekly award after helping the Tigers to five victories during the winter break.   During the five-game span, King was the leading scorer for Hampden-Sydney in every contest, averaging 22.0 points-per-game.

In the first two games during the holiday break, King led the Tigers to a pair of victories to win the 2007 Weenie Miller Holiday Hoops Championship.  King scored a career-high 36 points against Greensboro in the Championship game, en route to earning Tournament MVP honors.  King grabbed a career-high ten rebounds in Hampden-Sydney's victory over LaGrange, and he averaged 19.5 points-per-game to help the Tigers earn a pair of victories in the Christopher Newport Captains Classic.

During the span, King shot 51.9 percent from the field and a blistering 52.9 percent (18-of-34) from three-point range.  King also averaged 6.6 rebounds-per-game, while also averaging 1.0 block-per-contest.  The honor is the first of King's career.

King and the Hampden-Sydney basketball team return to action on Wednesday, January 9, as the Tigers travel to Greensboro, NC, to take on ODAC-foe Guilford College at 7:00 pm.  The game will be broadcast live on FM 95.7 WFLO and on the internet at www.hsc.edu/athletics.
