H-SC COMPETES AT LYNCHBURG COLLEGE TRACK CLASSIC

LYNCHBURG, VA — The Hampden-Sydney spring cross country season came to a close over the weekend with a dual performance by freshman Timothy Fisher (Millville, WV/Jefferson). Fisher ran in both the 400m and the 200m, improving on both of his previous attempts. Fisher placed fourteenth in the 400m with a time of 53.33 and nineteenth in the 200m with a time of 23.95. After the Tigers' inaugural spring season, which was somewhat up and down, the Hampden-Sydney harriers look forward to the fall cross country season. With a strong group of returning runners in addition to the help of some promising incoming freshmen, the team will look to move up in the ODAC ranks and make their mark in the conference.

TIGER HARRIERS RUN AT ASICS COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL

LYNCHBURG, VA — Hampden-Sydney's cross country team competed again this past weekend at the Asics Collegiate Invitational hosted by Liberty University, the second of three events on the Tigers' spring competition schedule. Both Tigers that competed turned in strong performances in the 5000m. Junior captain George Heeschen (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) recorded an eighth place finish with a time of 16:37.27, a season and personal best time for him. Sophomore Robert Melvin (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) crossed the line two places behind his teammate, notching a tenth place finish and a time of 16:47.64.

XC TIGERS COMPETE AT 2008 JOPSON INVITATIONAL

BRIDGEWATER, VA - The Hampden-Sydney cross country team opened up their spring season this past Saturday by competing in the 13th Annual Harry G. M. Jopson Track and Field Invitational held at Bridgewater College. This event marked the first of a brief three meet spring season for the Tigers as they look to prepare and stay motivated for the 2008 fall cross country campaign. Sophomore Robert Melvin (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) and junior George Heeschen (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) ran well in the 5000m opening event, placing seventh and ninth, respectively.

XC TIGERS COMPETE AT NCAA DIII SOUTH/SOUTHEAST REGIONALS

WILLIAMSBURG, VA - Two Hampden-Sydney harriers competed at the 2007 NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championships this past Saturday, Nov. 10 in Williamsburg, Virginia and capped off strong finishes to great seasons. The field of competitors was full of the top teams and individuals from the entire South/Southeast Region of Division III colleges and universities and the Tigers stepped up to gain valuable experience for further improvement.

XC TIGERS FINISH SEVENTH AT ODAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

LEXINGTON, VA - Hampden-Sydney's cross country team brought their regular season to a close with a solid seventh place finish at the 2007 ODAC Men's Cross Country Championships this past weekend in Lexington. The Tigers ran well on a difficult course that was drenched with rain from the three previous days. Although the wet course provided an added challenge, all six Tiger harriers improved on their previous course times from the Washington and Lee Invite in September.

FIVE XC TIGERS POST PERSONAL BESTS AT TRIBE OPEN

WILLIAMSBURG, VA — Hampden-Sydney junior George Heeschen (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) led a host of Tigers who registered personal records with a personal-best time of 27:56 at the 2007 Tribe Open hosted by The College of William and Mary last Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Robert Melvin (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) was the second Tiger to finish, and also posted a personal record of 29:40.
