CROSS COUNTRY TIGERS FINISH SIXTH AT W&L INVITATIONAL LEXINGTON, VA (September 10, 2005)—Hampden-Sydney College’s cross country squad took home a sixth-place finish at the 2005 Washington and Lee Generals Cross Country Invitational Saturday. The Tiger harriers were led by sophomore Matt Moore (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) who finished in 15th-place with a time of 31:04. Moore was followed by fellow sophomore Peter Crowe (Boalsburg, PA/State College Area) in 28th-place at 33:11 and freshman George Heeschen (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) in 30th at 33:39. Freshman Drew Tatom (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) and junior Phil Toblemann (Wytheville, VA/George Wythe) finished the scoring for Hampden-Sydney in 35th and 38th respectively as Tatom ran the 8k in a time of 34:44, while Toblemann finished at 35:10. The College of Misericordia won the event with 38 total points, followed by Washington and Lee at 40, Southern Virginia (60), Catholic (129), Virginia Wesleyan (134), Hampden-Sydney (146) and Guilford (156). Washington and Lee’s Alex Mahoney took individual honors with a time of 27:46. Hampden-Sydney’s squad returns to action on Saturday, September 24, as the team competes in the Maroon Invitational, hosted by Roanoke College in Salem, VA. -www.hsc.edu/athletics- |
