XC TIGERS PLACE FOURTH IN LONGWOOD INVITATIONAL

FARMVILLE, VA (September 15, 2007)—The Tigers' Robert Melvin (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) and George Heeschen (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) finished in 20th and 21st place, respectively, to lead Hampden-Sydney to a fourth-place finish at the Longwood University Cross Country Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Melvin recorded an excellent time of 29:55.20 and Heeschen a time of 30:47.90 to pace the Tigers in a meet that featured three Division I opponents - Campbell University, Liberty University and Longwood.

Campbell took first place overall in the meet, with Liberty and Longwood rounding out the top three. Hampden-Sydney also placed four other runners in the top 25: Joseph Stiles (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug), Daniel Isaacs (Troutville, VA/Lord Botetourt) and Jacob Newton (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale) placed 22nd through 24th. Hampden-Sydney's Kent Wydner (Brookneal, VA/William Campbell) improved tremendously over last week's performance, posting a career-best time of 38:36.25 for a 25th place finish.

The Tigers will enjoy a week off from competition before participating in the 5K Family Weekend Run on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 9am on the campus of Hampden-Sydney.
