XC TIGERS FINISH SEVENTH AT ODAC CHAMPIONSHIPS LEXINGTON, VA (October 27, 2007)—Hampden-Sydney's cross country team brought their regular season to a close with a solid seventh place finish at the 2007 ODAC Men's Cross Country Championships this past weekend in Lexington. The Tigers ran well on a difficult course that was drenched with rain from the three previous days. Although the wet course provided an added challenge, all six Tiger harriers improved on their previous course times from the Washington and Lee Invite in September. The Tigers were led by junior captain George Heeschen (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) with a time of 30:04.71 and a 20th place overall finish. The next finisher was sophomore Robert Melvin (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon), who ran 31:47.86 and scored 36th for the team by out-kicking two competitors in the home stretch. The Tigers’ third finisher was freshman Daniel Isaacs (Troutville, VA/Lord Botetourt), who ran 33:32.26 to finish 47th in the overall scoring. Coming in fourth and fifth for the Tigers, and 53rd and 54th overall, were Joe Stiles (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) and David Herzog (Bristol, TN/Tennessee). These two ran well registering times of 34:58.50 and 35:18.43, respectively. Kent Wydner (Brookneal, VA/William Campbell) rounded out the Hampden-Sydney team with a time of 41:27.79 and an overall place of 61st. The meet was won by Washington and Lee University, for the fourth straight year, with Bridgewater College as a close second. Lynchburg College, Roanoke College, and Virginia Wesleyan College rounded out the top five teams and set the stage for the 2008 season to come. -www.hsc.edu/athletics-
