HEESCHEN LEADS TIGERS IN VIRGINIA STATE XC CHAMPIONSHIPS PENN LAIRD, VA (October 6, 2007)—Hampden-Sydney's George Heeschen (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) led the Tigers with an eighth-place finish and seasonal best time of 29:47.11 at the Virginia State Division II/III Cross Country Championships held in Penn Laird, VA and hosted by Eastern Mennonite University. The season-best finish earned Heeschen second team all-state honors. The two other Tigers who participated in the meet registered strong performances. Freshman Daniel Isaacs (Troutville, VA/Lord Botetourt) finished in 29th overall for the Tigers and also recorded a seasonal and personal best time of 34:07.30. The Tigers' third and final finisher was David Herzog (Bristol, TN/Tennessee), who placed 34th with a time of 34:44.01 - also a seasonal and personal best. Bridgewater College earned first place in the meet with a score of 23 points by placing all of their top five runners in the top-ten of the race. Roanoke College and Shenandoah University were the second and third place teams, scoring 41 points and 74 points, respectively. The team was limited to only three runners this week due to various reasons, but will be at full strength for the College of William and Mary’s Tribe Open this weekend, Oct. 13, in Williamsburg, VA.
