XC FINISHES TENTH AT GENERALS INVITATIONAL LEXINGTON, VA (September 8, 2007)—Hampden-Sydney's cross country team placed tenth overall in the Generals Cross Country Invitational hosted by Washington and Lee University. The Tigers were led once again by junior captain George Heeschen (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle), who finished 34th individually after recording a time of 31:59.00. The course in Lexington was much more challenging than that tackled by the Tigers last weekend in Virginia Beach, and several other Tigers would enjoy solid outings. Sophomore Robert Melvin (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) placed 68th in the field of 124 competitors with a time of 34:22.00 and freshman Daniel Isaacs (Troutville, VA/Lord Botetourt) logged a 78th place finish at a pace of 35:36.00. Washington and Lee took first place overall in the meet, recording 46 place points and averaging a team time of 29:59.40. Roanoke College finished a close second with 63 points and Bridgewater College rounded out the top three with 80 points. Hampden-Sydney returns to action close to home this Saturday, Sept. 15, as they participate in the Longwood Invitational in Farmville, VA. Meet time is scheduled for 11:45am. -www.hsc.edu/athletics-
