WES DODSON NAMED NEW DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR, BRAITHWAITE JOINS MICHIGAN STAFF

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA—Hampden-Sydney College Head Football Coach Marty Favret announced today the promotion of Wes Dodson as the new Defensive Coordinator for the Hampden-Sydney football program. Dodson was promoted to coordinator following the departure of Adam Braithwaite to the University of Michigan. “I’m excited for Adam and wish him all the best in Ann Arbor," stated Coach Favret. "He’s built a solid foundation for us here defensively, and I’m expecting Coach Dodson and the rest of the defensive staff to oversee our continued progress on that side of the ball.”

DREW SMITH RECIPIENT OF NCAA POST-GRAD SCHOLARSHIP

INDIANAPOLIS, IN—Hampden-Sydney senior receiver Drew Smith is one of 174 collegiate athletes to receive a postgraduate scholarship of $7,500 from the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the NCAA office in Indianapolis announced today. Smith, who garnered countless honors and awards for his performance on the field during the football Tigers' 2007 ODAC Championship season, was honored as one of only 11 college football players across the country, in all divisions, to receive the scholarship. Other football winners included student-athletes from UCLA, Notre Dame and Yale University.

FOOTBALL SENIORS CELEBRATE CAREERS AT CHAMPIONS DINNER

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA—Fourteen seniors on the Hampden-Sydney College football team celebrated the conclusion of their collegiate football careers as the Gridiron Club sponsored the 2007 Senior Champions Dinner. Held at the Commonwealth Club in Richmond, the banquet celebrated the seniors four years at Hampden-Sydney and the Tigers' Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship during the 2007 season. The event featured a live and silent auction, reflections by several coaches and former players, and a highlight film of the Tigers march to a conference championship and berth into the 2007 NCAA Playoffs.

FOOTBALL TIGERS NAME CAPTAINS FOR 2008 SEASON

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA—Three members of the Hampden-Sydney College football team have been named captains for the 2008 football season as announced by head coach Marty Favret. Seniors Josh Simpson and Andrew Sellers and junior quarterback Corey Sedlar will lead the Tiger football team next season. Hampden-Sydney’s football team is coming off a 2007 season in which it recorded an 8-3 overall record and 5-1 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference to win the schools' first ODAC Championship since 1987. The Tigers made their first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 1977.
