CLEMMONS, FERRANTE EARN ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS VALDOSTA, GA (November 11, 2004)—Hampden-Sydney College senior football players C.W. Clemmons (Covington, VA/Alleghany) and Nick Ferrante (Bryantown, MD/Gonzaga) have each been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District III first team. The two will now be eligible to receive Academic All-America accolades. Clemmons, a chemistry major, and Ferrante, a biology major, each earned the all-district honor, which was voted upon by sports information directors in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia, thanks in part to owning a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 while also performing as an outstanding contributor on the playing field. Clemmons, a preseason second team All-American, became Hampden-Sydney’s all-time leading rusher and all-time leading scorer during the 2004 season. Through nine games on the year, he is leading the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with 1,005 yards rushing as he is the only H-SC back to ever record back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing efforts. For his career he now has 3,678 yards to go with 268 points scored courtesy of 44 touchdowns and two extra points. Ferrante meanwhile, has been a captain on the Tiger football team throughout the season and leads the team with a career-high 44 catches to go with 430 yards and two touchdowns, while he has also recorded 13 rushes for 64 yards and has thrown a touchdown pass. His 112 career receptions ranks sixth all-time in H-SC football history. Clemmons and Ferrante close out their Tiger football careers Saturday as they lead the Tigers into battle with arch-rival Randolph-Macon College in the 110th playing of “the South’s oldest small college football rivalry.” Kickoff is at 1 pm on Hundley Stadium and Fulton Field. -www.hsc.edu/athletics- |
