CLEMMONS NAMED VaSID COLLEGE DIVISION PLAYER OF THE YEAR

LEXINGTON, VA (December 17, 2004)—Hampden-Sydney College senior running back C.W. Clemmons (Covington, VA/Alleghany) has been selected as the College Division Player of the Year by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).  Clemmons, along with senior defensive end Michael Clark (Madison Heights, VA/Amherst), junior offensive lineman Paul Williams (Richmond, VA/James River) and junior tight end Ben Dull (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) all earned VaSID College Division All-State first team honors. 

Clemmons, who was previously named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year and the Division II/III State Player of the Year, is the second straight Tiger offensive player to earn VaSID Player of the Year honors after J.D. Ricca captured the award in 2003.  The Tigers’ all-time leading rusher and scorer, who racked up 3,771 yards and 282 points in his career, also earned his third-straight First Team All-ODAC honor while being tabbed as a First Team Academic All-District III honoree by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). 

Clark garners his first all-state honor after being selected to the All-ODAC first team by the conference coaches in 2004.  Clark led the Tigers with 60 tackles from his defensive end position, while tying for the team lead with four sacks to go with seven tackles-for-loss and one forced-fumble. 

Williams meanwhile, anchored the Tiger offensive line and was named First Team All-ODAC after helping pave the way for an offensive attack that averaged nearly 40 points and 500 yards of offense per contest.  Dull, the top tight end in the ODAC, hauled in a career-high 22 catches for 367 yards and three touchdowns, while also spending time under center where he completed 7-of-17 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown. 

Shenandoah head coach Paul Barnes was named VaSID College Division Coach of the Year after guiding the Hornets to a share of the USA South Conference title and the NCAA Tournament. 

The players selected to the VaSID College Division All-State squad were nominated by and voted upon by sports information directors at college and universities throughout the Commonwealth.
