CLEMMONS NAMED ODAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
SALEM, VA (October 4, 2004)—Hampden-Sydney College senior running back CW Clemmons (Covington, VA/Alleghany) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after recording 189 yards of offense and one touchdown in becoming the Tigers all-time leading scorer during their contest at Bridgewater on Saturday. The offensive player of the week honor is the second of the year for Clemmons and fourth in four games for the Tiger football team. Clemmons, a preseason second team All-America choice by Don Hansen’s Football Gazette, caught six passes for 46 yards and rushed for 143 yards on 24 carries. He had a 46-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that gave him 242 points for his career, surpassing Jimmy Ferguson’s mark of 241 points. Clemmons also became the third Tiger rusher all-time to surpass the 3,000-yard barrier with his 143 rushing yards. Clemmons is now 460 yards shy of breaking Ferguson’s all-time rushing yards record of 3,601. For the season, Clemmons leads the ODAC with 469 yards in four games (117.2 ypg) and seven touchdowns. Clemmons and the Tigers return to action Saturday as they host Emory and Henry College at 1 pm at Hundley Stadium and Fulton Field for the 2004 Homecoming Game. The contest will be broadcast live on FM 95.7 WFLO and on the internet at www.hsc.edu/athletics.
