CLEMMONS NAMED RICHMOND TD CLUB OFFENSIVE BACK OF YEAR RICHMOND, VA (January 14, 2005)—Hampden-Sydney College senior running back C.W. Clemmons (Covington, VA/Alleghany) has been named the Division II/III Offensive Back of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Richmond. Clemmons will be honored as part of the 42nd annual awards banquet Thursday, January 20. The honor rounds out a bevy of post-season honors bestowed upon Clemmons, the Tigers’ all-time leading rusher (3,771 yards) and scorer (282 points) who was also tabbed as the Division II/III Dudley Award Winner as the Commonwealth of Virginia Player of the Year, while also earning Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors, Virginia Sports Information Directors Player of the Year accolades and first team All-ODAC, first team All-State and third team All-South. An outstanding student, Clemmons was named first team Academic All-District III, which is awarded to top-level athletes on the field and top-level students in the classroom who hold at least a 3.25 cumulative grade-point-average. He was also selected as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year, following up 2003 winner Conrad Singh to give Hampden-Sydney College back-to-back winners of the award. Clemmons garners the award opposite Virginia Tech quarterback Bryan Randall who will be honored as the Division I-A/I-AA Offensive Back of the Year. The annual event honors award winners selected by the club along with the All-Metro Team which was selected by the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Tickets for the event cost $30 and the banquet will be held at 7 pm on January 20 at the Sheraton Richmond West Hotel in downtown Richmond. -www.hsc.edu/athletics- |
