RICCA NAMED ODAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
SALEM, VA (September 13, 2004)—Hampden-Sydney College junior quarterback JD Ricca (Gaithersburg, MD/St. John’s) has been named Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after leading the 15th-ranked Tigers to a 59-16 victory over Gettysburg College Saturday. The weekly honor is the second straight for a member of the Tiger offense, and is the third of Ricca’s career. Ricca, a consensus preseason All-American in 2004, completed 13-of-25 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns against the Bullets, and had passes of 50, 52 and 62 yards among his 13 completions. Ricca hooked up with senior receiver Nick Ferrante (Bryantown, MD/Gonzaga) for two touchdowns on the afternoon, from 15 and five yards out, while he also hit junior tight end Ben Dull (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) on a 17-yard touchdown strike. In just two games on the season, Ricca has thrown for 518 yards and five touchdowns, along with no interceptions, to give him an efficiency rating of 162.99. Ricca and the Tiger football team return to action on September 25, as the team hosts Guilford College at 1 pm at Hundley Stadium/Fulton Field for the annual Family Weekend contest. -www.hsc.edu/athletics- |
