DREW SMITH NAMED TO D3FOOTBALL.COM SOUTH REGION FIRST TEAM STERLING, VA (December 10, 2007)–Hampden-Sydney senior receiver Drew Smith (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) has earned D3football.com first team All-South Region honors. The senior wide receiver receives the honor after being named the Division II/III/NAIA Dudley Award winner and a regional finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy. Smith earned first team honors following a record-breaking season in which the senior caught 110 passes for 1,616 yards and eight touchdowns. Smith broke several Hampden-Sydney single-season records for receptions and yards, while also setting the school record for consecutive games with a reception with a catch in 41 straight games. Smith was also named a Academic All-District honoree and was the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year. Mary Hardin-Baylor linebacker Jerrell Freeman is the D3football.com South Region Defensive Player of the Year and Mississippi College receiver Jake Allen is the D3football.com South Region Offensive Player of the Year.
