DREW SMITH NAMED DUDLEY AWARD WINNER FOR DIVISION II/III/NAIA RICHMOND, VA (December 7, 2007)–Hampden-Sydney senior receiver Drew Smith (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) has been named the Dudley Award Winner on Thursday night at the 2007 Dudley Awards Banquet at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. Smith, the Division II/III/NAIA recipient, is joined by University of Virginia defensive end Chris Long, the Division I and I-AA recipient, as the 2007 award winners. Smith totaled 44 votes, including five first-place votes, to finish ahead of Virginia Union quarterback Lamar Little and UVA-Wise running back Ra'Shad Morgan. Smith becomes the third Tiger to win the award in four Years with C.W. Clemmons in 2004 and J.D. Ricca in 2005. Conrad Singh was a finalist in 2003 but finished third behind Kevin Jones and Matt Schaub. The Dudley award, sponsored by the Richmond Times-Dispatch, is named after former University of Virginia standout "Bullet" Bill Dudley and is awarded to the best collegiate football player in the Commonwealth of Virginia. -www.hsc.edu/athletics- |
