SIMPSON EARNS THIRD ODAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR SALEM, VA (November 4, 2007)—For the third time this season, Hampden-Sydney junior running back Josh Simpson (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Simpson earns the honor following his performance in Saturday’s, 34-21, victory over Huntingdon College in the first meeting between the two schools. The honor is Simpson's third of the season and the fifth of his career. Simpson tallied 245 total yards of offense on the afternoon, leading the team in both rushing and receiving, while also scoring four touchdowns. On the ground, Simpson rushed for just 60 yards on 18 carries, scoring two rushing touchdowns. He also caught 11 passes for 185 yards and two scores. With Saturday's output, Simpson set or tied Hampden-Sydney and ODAC records for rushing touchdowns in a single season (19) and points in a single season (146). In only his junior season, Simpson set a new H-SC and ODAC record with 300 career points. Hampden-Sydney will travel to Ashland, VA this Saturday, November 10, to take on the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon in the 113th meeting between the two schools. The winner of "The Game" will win the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Title and earn a spot in the NCAA Division III playoffs. The Tigers enter Saturday's game with a 7-2 overall record and 4-1 mark in the conference, while Randolph-Macon is 8-1 and 5-0 in the ODAC. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm. -www.hsc.edu/athletics- |
