FOOTBALL TIGERS NAME CAPTAINS FOR 2008 SEASON HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (January 28, 2008)—Three members of the Hampden-Sydney College football team have been named captains for the 2008 football season as announced by head coach Marty Favret. Seniors Josh Simpson (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) and Andrew Sellers (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) and junior quarterback Corey Sedlar (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) will lead the Tiger football team next season as Hampden-Sydney will look to defend their Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship. Simpson will serve as a captain after a solid performance during the 2007 season. Simpson rushed for 1,042 yards on 247 carries and 21 touchdowns, while he also caught 62 passes for 670 yards and six scores. Simpson set several Hampden-Sydney and ODAC records, including points in a game (42), rushing touchdowns in a single season (21), points in a single season (164), and career points (318). For his performance on the field, Simpson earned first team All-ODAC and All-State honors. Sellers will serve as a defensive captain for the Tigers as he ranked sixth on the team in 2007 with 59 tackles, including 29 solo stops. Sellers led the team with 9.0 tackles-for-loss and 4.5 sacks. Sellers led the conference with five fumble recoveries. Sellers also forced two fumbles and intercepted two passes. Sedlar, a second team All-ODAC honoree, led the Tigers to an 8-3 overall record and ODAC Championship as he completed 265-of-410 passes for 3,426 yards and 24 touchdowns. In just first season as a starting quarterback, Sedlar completed 64.6 percent of his passes and averaged 311.5 passing yards per game. Sedlar led the ODAC with a 147.3 passer efficiency. Hampden-Sydney’s football team is coming off a 2007 season in which it recorded an 8-3 overall record and 5-1 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference to win the schools' first ODAC Championship since 1987.
