Assistant Football Coach

Chris Krieg is in his second season as offensive assistant in 2007 with primary
duties as offensive line coach. Krieg brings ten years of coaching
experience to the Tiger staff, where he will work directly under the tutelage of
Favret, who guides the team as head coach and offensive coordinator.
Hampden-Sydney has posted exceptional offensive numbers under Favret as the team
led the NCAA in scoring in 2003, averaging 47.2 points-per-game, while pacing
the country in total offense in 2005, averaging 525.2 yards-per-contest.
“Chris brings a variety of skills to the plate for us,”
said Favret. “A proven recruiter, we expect him to help us in that area
immediately. I was also impressed with his talents as a line coach. We share the
same philosophies on what it takes to build a successful offensive unit and I'm
excited to have him aboard.”
Krieg joins Hampden-Sydney from Catholic University of
America, where he spent the last two years as offensive line and strength and
conditioning coach and helped the Cardinals generate the Old Dominion Athletic
Conference’s number two ranked offense in 2005.
“I'm very excited to become part of the Hampden-Sydney
community, the coaches and everyone involved with the college are just great
people,” said Krieg. “I'm looking forward to helping continue the
winning tradition here at Hampden-Sydney. I've already met the offensive
lineman that I'll be working with, and I can't wait for them to get back here in
August.”
Krieg’s coaching career began at his alma mater, West Liberty State College,
where he was a member of the coaching staff from 1996 to 2003. In 2003, he
helped engineer the conference's leading rushing attack, as well as coaching its
leading rusher. Meanwhile, the WLS ground game broke several school records,
including highest single-season rushing offense, single-season rushing leader
and highest single game rushing performance by a running back (348 yards).
His
offensive line also helped pave the way for several national rankings – number
four leading rusher, number one rusher in yards-per-carry (7.1), number 16 in
rushing offense (223 yds/game) and number six in yards-per-carry (5.3). Krieg
graduated from Grand Valley High School in Orwell, Ohio, where he helped his
football team accumulate a 33-7 record. He lettered in varsity football for four
seasons while playing quarterback and linebacker, along with receiving honorable
mention honors as a senior.
