BOTH TIGER GOLF TEAMS EARN TOP TEN FINISH AT POPLAR HILL INTERCOLLEGIATE FARMVILLE, VA (September 11, 2007) -- Hampden-Sydney had two teams compete in the 54-hole Poplar Hill Intercollegiate, and despite being the only non-Division I program, both teams were able to score a top-ten finish. Hampden-Sydney's "A" team finished sixth and were paced by senior Bob Boykin (Virginia Beach, VA/Cox) whose score of 218 (69-74-75) was good enough to place him tied for fourth overall. Hampden-Sydney's "B" team finished seventh and were paced by freshman Nick Stubbe (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) who finished tied for 12th overall as he shot a 222 (73-76-73).Senior Nick Combs (Newport News,VA/Menchville) finished tied for ninth for the "A" team with a score of 221 (73-77-71) and senior Rob Shrader (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) finished 46th at 242 (79-80-83) Sophomore Taylor Lambert (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal) and freshman Michael Dowd (Richmond, VA/Collegiate) wrapped up scoring for the "A" squad. Lambert shot a 243 (89-75-79) and Dowd shot a 249 (83-83-83). Second on the "B" team was freshman Chason Trahan (Charlotte, NC/South Mecklenberg) who finished tied for 17th at 225 (76-75-74). Junior Richard Adams (Great Falls, VA/Heights School) finished tied for 33rd at 234 (77-78-79), while freshman Sam Wallace (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) finished at 241 (86-74-81) and was 45th overall. Rounding out the scoring for the Tigers "B" team was sophomore Britt Parnell (Midlothian, VA/Trinity Episcopal) with a score of 244 (85-78-81). Duquesne University's Brendan Madden won medalist honors, by virtue of a playoff, as he finished three-under par, shooting a 213 (69-70-74). Gardner-Webb won the team competition with a score of 869. Longwood University finished second at 885, followed by James Madison University (895), Presbyterian College (904), Liberty "B" (916), Hampden-Sydney (918), Hampden-Sydney "B" (921), Duquesne (923), Long Island-Brooklyn (949), and Mount St. Mary's (950) rounding out the top ten. -www.hsc.edu/athletics- |
