TIGER GOLFERS FINISH TIED FOR FOURTH AMONG THE NATION'S TOP TEAMS AT THE TOM O'BRIANT INVITATIONAL GREENSBORO, NC (October 9, 2007) -- The Hampden-Sydney golf team recorded a two-day total of 594 and finished tied for fourth at the Par 71, 6,942-yard, Tom O'Briant Invitational at the Greensboro Country Club. The tournament featured six of NCAA Division III's top-25 teams, according to the September 19 Golf World/NIKE Golf Division III Coaches poll, including three of the top-four squads. Ten of Division III's last 14 National Champions were in the field. Hampden-Sydney was led by senior Nick Combs (Newport News,VA/Menchville) as he shot a 142 (73-69) to finish third individually. Junior Richard Adams (Great Falls, VA/Heights School) finished tied for 28th after recording a score of 150 with rounds of 76 and 74. Senior Bob Boykin (Virginia Beach, VA/Cox) and freshman Chason Trahan (Charlotte, NC/South Mecklenberg) finished tied for 32nd with a score of 151 as he had rounds of 75-76 and 74-77 respectively. Freshman Nick Stubbe (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) wrapped up scoring for the Tigers as finished with a two-day total of 176 (90-86), finishing tied for 82nd overall. Washington and Lee's Nathaniel James won medalist honors, finishing at seven under par with a 135 (68-67). Oglethorpe University won the team competition with a score of 579, placing three individuals in the top-ten. UNC-Chapel Hill "B" finished second at 586, followed by Methodist (590), Hampden-Sydney (594), Emory (594), Wahington and Lee (594), UNC Greensboro (594), Guilford (595), Wesley (597), and Randolph-Macon (600) rounding out the top-ten. -www.hsc.edu/athletics- |
