TIGER GOLFERS FINISH SECOND AT THE VIRGINIA INTERCOLLEGIATE, BOYKIN EARNS MEDALIST HONORS

SUFFOLK, VA (October 15, 2007) -- The Hampden-Sydney golf team recorded rounds of 293 and 288 for a two-day total of 581 to finish second at the Par 72, 6,961-yard, Virginia State Intercollegiate at the Nansemond-River Golf Course.  All five Tigers placed in the top-20 individually, while senior Bob Boykin (Virginia Beach, VA/Cox) won medalist honors as he shot a 139 with rounds of 72 and 67.  Boykin's round of 67 was a season-low.

Freshman Chason Trahan (Charlotte, NC/South Mecklenberg) finished tied for third after recording a score of 144 with rounds of 73 and 71 to finish at even par.  Seniors Nick Combs (Newport News,VA/Menchville) and Rob Shrader (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) finished tied for 14th and 18th respectively with scores of 150 (74-76) and 151 (74-77).  Junior Richard Adams (Great Falls, VA/Heights School) wrapped up scoring for the Tigers as finished with a two-day total of 152 (78-74), finishing tied for 20th overall.

Boykin won medalist honors at five under par, three strokes ahead of the second place finisher.  Bridgewater College won the team competition with a score of 579, placing all five individuals in the top-ten.  Hampden-Sydney finished second at 581, followed by Randolph-Macon (590), Christopher Newport (598), Shenandoah (622), Roanoke (624), Virginia Wesleyan (626), Newport News-Apprentice (629), Randolph-Macon "B" (629), and Lynchburg (639) rounding out the top-ten.
