H-SC LAX PLACES SEVEN ON ALL-CONFERENCE SQUAD

SALEM, VA—Following a roller coaster season on the turf, seven Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse Tigers were named to the 2008 Old Dominion Athletic Conference all-league teams. The Tigers placed two players, senior captain Colin Dunn (Chevy Chase, MD/Trinity Pawling) and senior Alex Pritzlaff (Castle Rock, CO/Kent Denver), on the All-ODAC first team. Senior defenseman Ian York (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne's-Belfield) earned second team recognition while teammates Doug Carpenter (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's), Kyle Jett (Suffolk, VA/Nanesmond Suffolk), Kyle Frazier (Forest, VA/Virginia Episcopal) and Will Ashwell (Warrenton, VA/Notre Dame Academy) rounded out Hampden-Sydney's all-conference honorees with honorable mention selections.

UPSTART R-MC STUNS LAX TIGERS, CLINCHES FIRST EVER ODAC BERTH

ASHLAND, VA—Yellow Jackets' attackman Billy Rowe scored three goals and added one assist and Paul Johnson and Tyler Watkins notched two tallies apiece as Randolph-Macon College’s lacrosse squad secured the program’s first ever berth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Tournament with an 11-7 defeat of visiting Hampden-Sydney College on Saturday afternoon. Yellow Jackets net minder Ray Wadorski was a monster in the cage, racking up 23 saves, including two huge stops in the third period to aid the R-MC cause. Hampden-Sydney was led by sophomore Kyle Jett (Suffolk, VA/Nanesmond Suffolk) and junior Andrew Mahoney (Littleton, CO/Littleton) who each scored twice, but never held a lead in a game that ultimately eliminated the Tigers from postseason contention.

NO. 5 LYNCHBURG HOLDS OFF TIGERS' RALLY, ESCAPES WITH 10-9 WIN

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA—Hampden-Sydney crawled back from an early 4-0 hole to tie fifth-ranked Lynchburg College at seven all early in the fourth quarter, but the Hornets used a timely 3-0 scoring run in the waning moments and successfully withstood a late Tigers' flourish to claim a tough 10-9 victory over home standing Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday afternoon at Lewis C. Everett Stadium. Trailing 10-7 with under a minute to play in the contest, the Tigers' Kyle Jett (Suffolk, VA/Nanesmond Suffolk) and Joe Daugherty (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne's-Belfield) notched goals just 19 seconds apart to bring Hampden-Sydney within one score with 33 seconds remaining, but Lynchburg won the ensuing face-off, weaving and dodging their way to the win.

GENERALS TURN BACK LAX TIGERS, 15-8

LEXINGTON, VA—Washington and Lee attackman Harry St. John scored five goals and assisted on another to lead the Generals to a 15-8 victory over visiting Hampden-Sydney on Saturday afternoon. Kyle Jett (Suffolk, VA/Nanesmond Suffolk) led the Tigers’ charge with four goals of his own, but Washington and Lee turned an early 3-2 deficit into a 8-5 halftime advantage before outscoring the Tigers 7-3 in the second half to claim the conference win. The loss drops Hampden-Sydney to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the ODAC while Washington and Lee improves to 8-5, 4-1 in conference play.
