Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (April 4, 2007)—Hampden-Sydney's lacrosse team increased its win streak to five games as the Tigers scored a 17-6 victory over Greensboro College on Wednesday at Hellmuth-Pritzlaff field. Thomas Jennings (Murfreesboro, TN/Webb School) led the Tigers, scoring four unassisted goals. The Tigers jumped out to an early 11-4 halftime lead and went on for the 17-6 victory. With the win, the Tigers improve to 9-1 overall, while the Pride fall to 3-6 on the season.

Greensboro scored the first goal of the game at the 11:15 mark, but Hampden-Sydney answered with four goals and held a 5-2 first quarter lead. In the second quarter, Hampden-Sydney would add six more goals, while Greensboro was only able to find the back of the net twice. Jennings scored three second quarter goals, helping Hampden-Sydney hold a 11-4 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Hampden-Sydney would add four more goals, including two goals by Andrew Mahoney (Littleton, CO/Littleton). Leading 15-6 going into the fourth quarter, the Tigers were able to add two goals and held the Pride scoreless to take the 17-6 decision.

Nine different Tigers scored goals. Jennings led the Tiger offense with four goals, while Andrew Mahoney and Ryan Harrington (Dallas, TX/Plano) added three goals and one assist apiece. Junior Colin Dunn (Chevy Chase, MD/Trinity Pawling) scored two goals and grabbed five ground balls on the day.

Senior Scott Russell (Darien, CT/Darien) recorded his ninth victory of the season for the Tigers as he made two saves and allowed only four goals in 30 minutes of action. Freshman Whit Kelley (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft) won 11-of-16 face-offs and recorded a game-high six ground balls. Overall, the Tigers won 18-of-27 face-offs and were 1-of-3 on man-up opportunities.

Hampden-Sydney will return to action on Saturday, April 7, as Hampden-Sydney will travel to Salem, VA to face ODAC-rival Roanoke College. The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm.
