DAUGHERTY, DUNN AND FRAZIER TABBED 2008 CAPTAINS

(November 12, 2007) HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Head Coach Ray Rostan has released the names of the three seniors chosen to lead his 2008 lacrosse Tigers. The Tigers will be led by three seniors, midfielders Joe Daugherty and Kyle Frazier and defenseman Colin Dunn, as Hampden-Sydney gets set to battle for its first ODAC title since 2001.

Daugherty, a 5-10, 185-pound midfielder from Charlottesville, VA, started in four of his 15 appearances in 2007, scoring ten goals and dishing out seven assists. He scooped eight ground balls for the Tigers last season and will be called upon to be a consistent offensive threat at midfield and attack this year. A physically strong athlete with accurate shooting skills, Daugherty has netted 21 goals in his three-year career.

The 6-2, 215-pound Frazier will aim to be a force in the defensive midfield for Hampden-Sydney. The Forest, VA native is known for his tough, physical style of play, and is one of the hardest working member of the Tigers' roster. Playing with a broken arm for much of 2007, Frazier was solid in the Hampden-Sydney lineup, playing in 13 games and recording one assist and nine ground balls. He will also look to step into the forefront and increase his production and leadership roles for Coach Rostan in 2008.

Three-time first team All-ODAC and 2007 USILA third team All-America long stick defenseman Dunn returns for his senior season as the final captain on the 2008 squad. Dunn registered staggering numbers as a junior last season, scoring five goals, picking up three assists and recording a team-high 88 ground balls. At 6-3 and with great speed, Dunn will once again be relied upon to anchor one of the best defensive units in the country, while also playing in man-up situations and bringing his hard shot into the attack. He has picked up 175 ground balls in his career and will be a sure candidate for first team All-America honors in 2008.

Hampden-Sydney's quest for an ODAC championship will begin Feb. 23 on the road at the University of Mary Washington. The Tigers will host key match ups throughout the season, including dates with Gettysburg (Mar. 1), Cabrini (Mar. 15), Messiah (Mar. 29), Virginia Wesleyan (Apr. 5), Roanoke (Apr. 12) and Lynchburg (Apr. 23).
