H-SC SELECTED No. 17 IN USILA PRESEASON POLL

(January 30, 2008) HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Hampden-Sydney's 2008 lacrosse squad holds the No. 17 ranking in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III Coaches Preseason Poll released last Wednesday. The Tigers are one of four ODAC schools represented in the poll, joining defending ODAC champion and fourth-ranked Roanoke College, No. 5 Lynchburg College and No. 15 Washington and Lee University.

Hampden-Sydney, ranked No. 16 in the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook Preseason Top-20 Poll, are coming off a 12-3 season in 2007, and return one of the best defensive units in program history, if not in the country, this season.

Anchored by a stingy defense, Head Coach Ray Rostan's Tigers will be eyeing their first ODAC title since 2001 and first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2003 season. The Tigers face another challenging schedule in 2008, which, in addition to a tough conference slate, will feature two more teams ranked in the USILA Preseason Top-20: No. 2 Gettysburg (at home, March 1) and No. 19 Haverford in Alexandria, VA on March 15.
