POWELL GARNERS PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS (October 22, 2007) SALEM, VA – Hampden-Sydney junior midfielder Jason Powell (Marietta, GA/Pope) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week for his outstanding play in the Tigers' two conference victories last week. Powell notched three goals and an assist for the week, as Hampden-Sydney moved into a tie for first in the conference with wins over Lynchburg College and Roanoke College. Powell scored the game-clinching goal in the Tigers' 2-0 win over Lynchburg last Wednesday. He followed up that performance by tallying two more goals and assisting on another to lead Hampden-Sydney to a crucial 4-1 victory over Roanoke on Saturday afternoon. For the season, Powell leads the team with six goals, and has scored four goals during the Tigers' current four-game winning streak. Powell and the Tigers will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Lexington and take on Washington and Lee at 4 pm. A win ensures Hampden-Sydney a top-seed in the ODAC Tournament and home-field advantage throughout the tournament.
