MOSS SNAGS SECOND POY HONOR, TIGERS SWEEP TENNIS AWARDS
(April 21, 2008)
SALEM, VA—Hampden-Sydney College sophomore standout William Moss (Fredericksburg, VA/Fredericksburg) notched his second Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men’s tennis Player of the Year award this weekend following a vote by the conference’s coaches. Teammates Rich Pugh (Augusta, GA/Lakeside) and Andrew McLeod (Mandeville, Jamaica/Manchester) were named the Rookie of the Year and ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete of the Year, respectively, and H-SC mentor Murrie Bates was tabbed the Coach of the Year. Moss, who also earned the top rookie award in 2007, has yet to lose an ODAC regular season conference match. Pugh went through the ODAC schedule nearly unscathed following an 8-1 ODAC season. McLeod boasts a 3.79 grade point average while double majoring in chemistry and economics/commerce.

DRIVE FOR THREE FALLS SHORT; W&L CLAIMS 13TH STRAIGHT CROWN
(April 21, 2008)
LEXINGTON, VA—All season, head tennis coach Murrie Bates and his Tiger squad have hung their hats on one philosophy: play hard and never take a point off. Hampden-Sydney played that way all season, especially in its thrilling semifinal win over Roanoke College just two days ago, pulling out a gritty victory without the golden racket of sophomore sensation and leader Will Moss (Fredericksburg, VA/Fredericksburg). The philosophy carried the Tigers to a 14-2 overall record, a No. 14 ranking in the latest ITA Atlantic South Region Rankings and a date with traditional ODAC tennis powerhouse Washington and Lee University on the Generals home court for a chance at the program's third conference title.

TENNIS TIGERS WILL PLAY FOR TITLE
(April 20, 2008)
LEXINGTON, VA—There is something to be said about a team that can respond after losing its leader. By about 4 pm this afternoon, Hampden-Sydney's tennis team hopes that something involves mention of a championship. Again without the services of ace Will Moss (Fredericksburg, VA/Fredericksburg), the second-seeded Hampden-Sydney tennis squad showed why it is the first ever Tigers' unit to garner a regional ranking, coming back from a 2-1 deficit to squeak by No. 3 seed Roanoke College 5-4 in the second match of the 2008 ODAC Men's Tennis Tournament semifinals yesterday on the campus of Washington and Lee University. The victory sends the Tigers into the ODAC Championship match today, Sunday, April 20 at 2 pm against the host and top-seed Generals, who blanked their semifinal opponent, Guilford College, 9-0 in the first semifinal of the day.
