TENNIS TIGERS UPEND GREENSBORO, 8-1 GREENSBORO, NC (February 29, 2008)– Hampden-Sydney's tennis squad improved to 2-0 overall on their young season after scoring a solid 8-1 road victory over host Greensboro College on Friday afternoon. The Tigers were once again led by reigning ODAC Player of the Week Rich Pugh (Augusta, GA/Lakeside) as the freshman notched a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles over the Pride's Ben Roberts before teaming up with H-SC sophomore Will Moss (Fredericksburg, VA/Fredericksburg) to earn an 8-4 decision over the Greensboro top duo of Roberts and David Sutton. After taking the first set, Hampden-Sydney No. 1 hitter Moss was surprised by Sutton in the top singles match up, 4-6, 7-6, 10-7 in a highly competitive affair. Nevertheless, the Tigers responded by taking the remaining matches to record the road win. Hampden-Sydney will return to the court on Tuesday, March 4 when it travels to Roanoke, VA to square off with ODAC-foe Emory and Henry. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm.
