H-SC SCORES 9-0 VICTORY OVER EMORY AND HENRY ROANOKE, VA (March 4, 2008)– The Tiger tennis team dropped just 13 games in both singles and doubles en route to a 9-0 win over ODAC-foe Emory and Henry on Tuesday afternoon at Hollins College. The top of the Emory and Henry ladder played exceptionally well, but in the end, Hampden-Sydney's top tandem of sophomore Will Moss (Fredericksburg, VA/Fredericksburg) and freshman Rich Pugh (Augusta, GA/Lakeside) was too much, as Moss scored a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Wasps' No. 1 Ben Blevins and Pugh earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory over E&H No. 2 Dan Mansmann. Together, Moss and Pugh defeated the duo of Blevins and Kelly McCall 8-2. With the win, Hampden-Sydney improves to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Hampden-Sydney No. 3, freshman Shad Harrell (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin), turned in a 6-1, 6-1 win over McCall in singles while fellow freshman Zack Pack (Keysville, VA/Randolph-Henry) blanked the Wasps' Will Garrison at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Tal Covington (Gainesville, VA/Flint Hill School) and senior Andrew McLeod (Mandeville, Jamaica/Manchester) rounded out Hampden-Sydney's singles victories, and sophomore Kenneth Holzapfel (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti) teamed-up with Covington to score an 8-0 doubles win. The Tigers return to action on Friday, March 7 as the team heads to Newport News, VA to take on Christopher Newport. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 pm.
