TENNIS TIGERS BLANK RANDOLPH-MACON, 9-0 HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (April 9, 2008)–Home standing Hampden-Sydney surrendered just seven games en route to a 9-0 victory over ODAC rival Randolph-Macon College, improving its record to 11-1 overall and 7-1 in the ODAC. The more experienced Tigers proved too much for the Yellow Jackets, with flawless singles performances from freshmen Shad Harrell (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) and Tal Covington (Gainesville, VA/Flint Hill School), senior Andrew McLeod (Mandeville, Jamaica/Manchester) and junior Jenks Snyder (Rock Hill, SC/Woodberry Forest), all of whom scored 6-0, 6-0 victories. Hampden-Sydney's top two hitters Will Moss (Fredericksburg, VA/Fredericksburg) and Rich Pugh (Augusta, GA/Lakeside) cruised to straight set wins; Moss dispatching of Randolph-Macon's Thomas Hanes 6-1, 6-0 and Pugh topping the Jackets' John Best 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Charles Eu (Reston, VA/Paul VI) and freshman Matt MacFarland (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) teamed up to capture a 8-1 doubles victory over the Randolph-Macon pair of David Lynch and Brian Bates. Hampden-Sydney will be back on the court Thursday, April 10 when it welcomes Virginia Wesleyan College to The Hill. Match time is set for 3:30 pm.
