TIGERS CAPTURE BUD SKEENS MEMORIAL TITLE FERRUM, VA (October 6, 2007)–Hampden-Sydney's tennis team won each of the top-five singles flights and came away with both doubles flight championships to claim first place in the 2007 Bud Skeens Memorial Tennis Tournament hosted by Ferrum College. The Tigers' one through five singles players - William Moss, Shad Harrell, Zack Pack, Taj Covington and Matt Macfarland - dropped just 16 games in ten matches combined to lead Hampden-Sydney to a solid win. Hampden-Sydney's top two players put on excellent performances in the singles draw. Moss took the No. 1 singles championship with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Ferrum's Brandon Brown. Harrell cruised through the No. 2 singles draw unscathed, and won his flight with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Ferrum's Kenny Kadar. Pack (6-1, 6-4 over Allen Robertson of Ferrum), Covington (6-0, 6-1 over Chris Gaines of Guilford College) and Macfarland (4-6, 6-1, 10-4 over Tim Leyson of Guilford) also registered stellar efforts for the tournament. In doubles, the combination of Harrell and Moss surrendered just one game in two matches while taking the No. 1 doubles championship with an 8-1 victory over Brown and Robertson of Ferrum. Covington and Pack rounded out the successful weekend with an 8-1 win of their own in the No. 2 doubles bracket over Kadar and K.J. Paitsel of Ferrum.
