Head Athletic Trainer
Andy McPherson, M.S., ATC
Andy McPherson is in his fourth year as the Head Athletic Trainer at
Hampden-Sydney College.
McPherson graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Arkansas State University in
2002 while being a football Academic All-American. After lettering for four
years, McPherson was a graduate assistant athletic trainer for Illinois State
University. At Illinois State, McPherson assisted the head athletic trainer with
football and was the primary athletic trainer for the baseball team. McPherson
received his Master’s degree in the spring of 2004 in exercise physiology with
an emphasis on athletic training.
McPherson oversees the athletic training rooms for Hampden-Sydney College. His
primary responsibilities include working as head athletic trainer for football
and basketball, in addition to servicing the Hampden-Sydney campus, including
club sports and intramurals.
Under McPherson’s leadership, the Hampden-Sydney Athletic Department sponsors a
comprehensive sports medicine program for the benefit of student-athletes. The
sports medicine team consists of the athletic trainers, health center, team
physician and team orthopedic surgeon. All of these professionals work in
coordination with one another to ensure all athletes at Hampden-Sydney receive
prompt and proper medical care.
