'Class' Definition
The expected year and term of graduation is entered into the system by
Admissions when a student first enters the College. They just add 4 years and show the beginning of the Academic Year for graduation (for example, this year's freshmen entering Fall 2003 are listed as the class of 2006 although they will graduate in spring 2007 -- the class is listed as the beginning of the academic year not the spring semester). Many students take longer than 4 years. The class year is only changed when seniors apply for graduation -- then it is known for sure when the student expects to graduate. These fields should be used as general, rough estimates.

Student classification (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) is based on the
number of credit hours a student has earned. A student can be one credit
shy of being a senior this semester, and still plan to graduate in December
2003 (i.e. only spend one semester as a senior). A student currently
enrolled in his third semester could still be designated a freshman. It is
all about credit hours earned, not about number of semesters enrolled, and
it is automatically calculated by the software.
