 FITNESS CENTER FACILITIES

The Fitness Center, home of Tiger Recreation - Fitness & Sports, in Kirby Field House, the College’s newest facility, has been designed to promote a healthy lifestyle in a relaxing atmosphere. For your cardiovascular workout, the Center includes a Cardio-Theatre system with seven 32” televisions that offer viewing to seven treadmills, six elliptical trainers, five bicycles, two stairclimbers, and one Concept II rower.

The Fitness Center also caters to the weightlifter with a complete line of free weight equipment, Hammer Strength systems, and LifeFitness selectorized equipment (formerly called nautilus). There is also a place to work the important core muscles (abs, lower back, etc.).

The Aerobics Room (located on the second floor) is stocked with the latest group exercise and personal use fitness equipment. There are three refurbished racquetball courts. Leggett Pool remains available and provides excellent exercise opportunities.

Located outside of the facility is a small garden type atmosphere that is perfect for cooling down after your workout, or just relaxing in the sun.

Racquetball Courts
The courts are open to all members. From 4– 7 pm, only students, faculty, and staff may reserve the courts. All members must reserve a court time. Reservations may be made no more than 48 hours in advance of the day that court time is requested. Reservations are made in 30-minute increments – maximum of two consecutive 30-minute reservations. If courts have not been reserved, members may use them on a first come, first-served basis. Eye protection and safety cords must be used. Call 223-6699 (x6699) to reserve a court.

Lockers are available in the men’s and women’s locker rooms. They may be used on a daily basis or rented on a six-month basis for $50.00. All members who wish to use lockers (daily or rented) are required to provide a personal lock. Locks may not remain on lockers overnight unless the locker is rented. Items left overnight in non-rented lockers will be discarded. Hampden-Sydney College is not responsible for any items left unattended inside the locker rooms. (See the attendant at the Control Desk to rent a locker.)

Towel Service
The Fitness Center provides both workout and shower towels for members. All those using the Fitness Center are required to have a towel in their possession while working out. Towels must be placed in the appropriate bin upon exiting the Fitness Center. Towels are not to be taken from the Fitness Center.

GymWipesTM Usage
To keep the Fitness Center equipment clean, patrons must disinfect the machine at the end of each workout session with GymWipesTM that are provided throughout the Center in black bins. GymWipesTM are an alcohol and water-based cleaning and disinfecting solution. Used wipes must be discarded in the appropriate container.

How to use the Cardio Theatre

The use of digital radios is advised in order to eliminate interference with other radio frequencies. Each television has its own set station. Only the Fitness Center staff can change television stations. Requests for a change of channel should be directed to the Fitness Center staff.
