The Athletic Complex contains Everett Stadium (2007, formerly Hundley Stadium
1965), Yank's Corner, Fulton Field (football, lacrosse),
Bernier Field (baseball), Hellmuth-Pritzlaff Field (2006), Miller Field (soccer) and Rostan Field (lacrosse). Fulton Field has been the site of two ABC-TV
Division III football broadcasts. The track along its east
edge was once almost a railroad track - it was part of the
right-of-way of the Orange and Keysville Railroad, abandoned
in the 1890s before completion.
The Lewis C. Everett Stadium was constructed in 2007 and replaced the 40-year-old Hundley Stadium adjacent to Fulton Field. The 1850-seat facility blends with the Federal architecture of the campus, and provides space for press, scorekeepers, and radio announcers. Restrooms are located in the concourse area, with a filming platform in the cupola.
Mr. Everett '63, a native of Danville, Virginia, was a star football player while at Hampden-Sydney, earning First Team All-American honors. He still holds the H-SC record for longest punt (78 yards against Randolph-Macon College in 1962). In 1989, Everett was inducted into the Hampden-Sydney Athletic Hall of Fame. His $2.5 million gift, which made the stadium possible, adds greatly to The Hill and to the festivities of the Hampden-Sydney home football contests.
Hellmuth-Pritzlaff Field was constructed in 2006. Thanks to the generous donations of alumni, parents and friends of the Hampden-Sydney College lacrosse program, the College has completed construction on a FieldTurf field. Ground breaking began in early May 2006 and the ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the field took place on Saturday, September 23, prior to the lacrosse Tigers intra-squad scrimmage. The field lies directly between Rostan Field, the lacrosse practice facility, and the football practice fields. The field will serve as a practice facility to the lacrosse, soccer and football teams and will be an occasional game facility for lacrosse and soccer. |
