PRESIDENT

The Board of Trustees of Hampden-Sydney College invites applications and nominations for the presidency of the College. Hampden-Sydney College, a liberal arts institution of approximately 1,125 men, has a tradition of educating its students for leadership. Among its earliest trustees were Patrick Henry and James Madison. And among its alumni are an American President, 13 senators, and scores of legislators and governors as well as captains of industry.

The College has nearly concluded a very successful capital campaign that has raised more than $92 million dollars for endowment and capital projects. The College is supported generously by its alumni with contributions for budget support and restricted annual projects exceeding $2.5 million dollars annually.

Applications for admission have more than doubled in the last decade. Entering classes for last several years have exceeded 300. The student/faculty ratio is 10 to 1. Over 90% of the faculty hold earned doctorates. The operating budget for the 2008-09 fiscal year is approximately $52 million. The College seeks a proven leader who can raise the profile of Hampden-Sydney by effective representation of the institution beyond the gates of the campus. The successful candidate will manifest eagerness for and success with all forms of fund raising, sound values, complete personal integrity, respect for traditions, and a commitment to academic excellence.

We seek an individual with a distinguished record of achievement, knowledge about innovation and best practices within higher education, a commitment to liberal arts education, and an understanding that the relationship between a student and faculty member is at the heart of the educational enterprise. The College welcomes nominations for candidates from both within and without the world of higher education.

The priority deadline for submitting applications for consideration is September 11, 2008.
