What to Bring Checklist for Freshmen

Alarm Clock   No college furniture may be removed from your room at any time.
Area Rug All rooms have tile floors Bed (extra long twin) 36" x 80"
Backpack or bookbag   Mattress cover (extra long twin) (Do not remove from room)
Bath Towels/Wash Cloths Whitehouse Colonades (NC/SC/WC) rooms consist of suites with a shared bathroom.  Whitehouse Houses, Cushing and Carpenter buildings have common bathrooms on the hall. Desk and Desk Chair
Bathrobe/shower shoes   Dresser
Batteries Closet or Wardrobe
Blender   Floors are tile
Camera  Windows have venetian blinds
Cleaning supplies -- dish soap, sponges    
Coffee pots/Coffee makers Must have thermostatic controls

Detergent, fabric softener, and a stain stick Washers and dryers are available at no additional charge to stduents during the semester and are located in four locations(CarpZ, Venable, EH, & WH) What not to bring:
Dictionary and thesaurus   Extension cords, cube adapters, and multi-prong cords ARE NOT ALLOWED.
Dust buster/hand-held vacuum/floor sweeper Candles
Earplugs   Electric grills (George Foreman etc.)
Electrical-Only Fire Shield brand UL approved surge protectors are allowed. (www.Fireshield.com) Fire Shield brand ONLY. NO extension cords, cube adapters or multi-prong cords are allowed. Electric or gas heaters
Fan All rooms have air conditioning. Fireworks

  *Communication: The College employs your Hampden-Sydney College email account, your Hampden-Sydney College post office box and the voice mail technology on the room phone to communicate critical College information about which you should know and for which you are held responsible.  You are encouraged to develop the habit of checking each at least daily.
